ACDA Composition Prizes Update

ACDA has maintained an ongoing commitment to choral
composers for over 50 years! The Composition Initiatives
Committee has recently expanded, updated, and improved our

offerings in support of living composers and new music:

Raymond W. Brock Competition
(alternates annually between Student and Professional Composers):

- Awards increased to $5,000 to re-establish this prize as one of the most
substantial
in choral composition

- Student winner’s piece now performed at all six regional ACDA conferences

- Eligibility has been clarifi ed

Raymond W. Brock Commission (not open for public application)

- $10,000 commission awarded annually to honor a composer for their
existing contribution to choral repertoire

- Clarified emphasis on generating new repertoire for choirs across the
spectrum of ACDA membership

- Intentional effort to broaden representation of composers commissioned

NEW! Focus Competition

- Annual award (open September to March) structured to fi ll identifi ed gaps
in repertoire needs of ACDA members and ensembles

- Total of $6,000 in prizes will be awarded in varying ways each year

- 2023 competition (opens Sept. 1, 2022) focuses on
works for SSAA and TTBB choirs
