Spotlights on compositions in the PROJECT : ENCORE Catalog
“Lux,” the Latin word for “light,” often represents such concepts as enlightenment, inspiration and
even hope. Programming around the concept of light can include both sacred and secular text, as
seen in the four beautiful selections below from the PROJECT : ENCORE Catalog.
Light of hope for world peace, for mixed ensemble …
“Lumen” by Giuseppe di Bianco
Giorgio La Pira, author of the text set by Giuseppe di Bianco,
was an active, key figure in Italian history as a promoter of world
peace. His “Lumen” is a message of hope and also of great
responsibility. The composer describes his setting as “a hymn
into the light of hope, into the future … that belongs to all of
us.” Mix of meters and linear independence suggest a sense of
forward movement. Stunning and unique. 3’ 20” in length

For your advanced treble choir …
“Lux Lucis” by Karen Thomas
Wisdom and light are the subjects Hildegard von Bingen
weaves through the three poems that Karen Thomas sets as her
three-movement work for treble voices. The shimmering, close
harmonies call for clean singing, and provide a truly exquisite
experience in tone and texture. Substantial enough to serve as a
core concert element.
